El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has donated two Bitcoins, valued at approximately $133,000, to support a project aimed at constructing 1,000 schools in Honduras. The donation was made to Shin Fujiyama, a prominent philanthropist and founder of the nonprofit organization Students Helping Honduras, which focuses on alleviating poverty through education.
Fujiyama is currently undertaking a 3,000-kilometer charity run to raise funds for the school-building initiative. In a heartfelt video, he expressed his gratitude to President Bukele for the generous donation, citing the president’s leadership and commitment to Bitcoin as an inspiration for his efforts.
Since making Bitcoin legal tender in El Salvador in 2021, Bukele has been a staunch advocate for cryptocurrency adoption, aiming to revitalize the Central American nation’s economy. This latest donation reflects his ongoing mission to integrate Bitcoin into everyday life and leverage it for social good.
Despite facing challenges related to Bitcoin adoption within El Salvador, Bukele remains steadfast in his commitment, recently reaffirming the country’s policy of purchasing one Bitcoin daily.
