Known for her pro-crypto stance and deep legal expertise, Goody Guillén’s potential appointment has garnered significant support from the crypto industry.
Currently a partner at the law firm BakerHostetler, where she co-leads the firm’s blockchain practice, Goody Guillén has earned recognition for her profound understanding of both securities regulations and digital assets. Her prior tenure at the SEC’s Office of the General Counsel, from 2009 to 2011, provided her with an in-depth understanding of the Commission’s inner workings, setting the stage for her later role as a trusted advisor in SEC enforcement matters.
Crypto industry professionals are optimistic about her candidacy. Brendan Playford, co-founder of decentralized data provider Masa, praised Goody Guillén as the “best candidate” for the role, noting her clear grasp of SEC processes and her strong support for crypto-friendly regulatory frameworks.
Her leadership could signal a shift in the SEC’s approach to cryptocurrency, with sources indicating that Trump’s team is seeking someone with a nuanced understanding of the industry—someone willing to scale back aggressive enforcement actions in favor of clearer, more predictable legislation.
Goody Guillén’s no-nonsense approach has also earned her accolades from her peers. Charley Cooper, senior advisor at digital asset solutions provider R3, described her as “tough as hell” with a unique ability to bridge traditional financial markets and the burgeoning crypto sector.
With a decision expected before Thanksgiving, Goody Guillén’s candidacy continues to gain traction. If appointed, she could reshape U.S. crypto regulation and foster growth across both traditional and digital financial markets.
