Recently, the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced that David Plouffe, a senior adviser to Kamala Harris in her 2024 presidential campaign, has joined its global advisory board.
David Prof is a well-known Democratic strategist who managed Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and has a rich background in politics and the technology industry. In recent years, he has also held advisory positions in technology companies such as Uber, the Chan Zuckerberg Foundation, and rival Binance. Joining Coinbase this time is one of his important roles in the cryptocurrency and policy field after leaving Harris’s campaign team.
Coinbase’s global advisory board has a strong lineup, including Chris LaCivita, who was the former co-campaign manager for Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign in 2024 and joined in January this year. In addition, there are many well-known figures from both parties, such as Kyrsten Sinema, a former senator from Arizona who changed from the Democratic Party to an independent.
The addition of Prof further expanded Coinbase’s political network and also demonstrated the trend of the crypto industry attracting political veterans. As the cryptocurrency industry plays an increasingly important role in the rapidly advancing legislation in Congress, Coinbase aims to provide advice on the company’s policy-making both at home and abroad as well as its role in future elections by bringing in individuals with rich political experience.
