A report co – authored by Bitget, Slowmist, and Elliptic revealed that 87 deepfake – driven scam rings were dismantled across Asia in the first quarter of 2025.
The rise of AI technology has led to a sharp increase in AI – enabled fraud. Deepfake technology, in particular, has been misused by scammers to carry out sophisticated scams. These scams often involve impersonating public figures, founders, and platform executives to deceive users. The report also shows that global crypto – scam losses increased by 24% year – on – year in 2024, reaching a total of $4.6 billion, and nearly 40% of high – value fraud cases involved deepfake technologies.
The severity of deepfake scams highlighted in the report serves as a warning, urging both individuals and organizations to adopt more stringent preventive measures.
