The Norman Rockwell Museum, in collaboration with the Norman Rockwell Family, has announced the launch of a series of NFT-backed artworks, marking the estate’s first venture into the world of NFTs. The series, titled “Studio Sessions: The Norman Rockwell Collection,” will provide collectors with the opportunity to own digital and physical works by the iconic artist, including previously unreleased images and process works from the Norman Rockwell archives.
The collection is produced in partnership with Iconic, a digital platform that assists traditional art institutions in exploring emerging technologies. Earlier this year, Iconic worked with the Jackson Pollock Studio to release a similar collection of NFTs on the Ethereum network.
“Studio Sessions” is set to be released on November 1, hosted on Iconic’s website. The specific works that will be included in the collection are being kept confidential until the release. NFTs from this collection will be available for purchase using credit cards or Ethereum, though pricing details have not been disclosed.
The proceeds from the sale will support the core missions of the Norman Rockwell Museum, which includes ensuring public access to Rockwell’s art, nurturing the next generation of illustrators, and the administration of the artist’s work and legacy by the Norman Rockwell Family.
Norman Rockwell, who passed away in 1978, was renowned for his paintings that depicted everyday scenes in 20th-century American life and culture. His works gained widespread popularity and later received critical acclaim.
“Studio Sessions” will provide insights into the numerous preliminary sketches, photography sessions, drawings, and painted color studies that influenced each of Rockwell’s paintings. Each “Session” in the series will focus on a specific celebrated Rockwell painting, and every NFT will be accompanied by a corresponding limited-edition museum-quality print.
Norton Moffatt, the director of the Rockwell Museum, highlighted the project’s role in advancing their commitment to meaningful innovation and preserving and championing the work of Norman Rockwell and illustration art through digital editions.
