Golden Finance reports that in the field of cryptocurrency security, another warning message has drawn attention. Yu Xian, the founder of Slow Fog, shared a case of a security incident, sounding the alarm for a large number of cryptocurrency users.
A certain user suffered a serious asset loss. Unfortunately, the four sets of mnemonic phrases they owned were leaked, and the funds in the corresponding four wallet addresses were also stolen by hackers. From the on-chain operation trajectory, it can be seen that after obtaining the funds, the hacker quickly converted all the assets into ETH and then used the FixedFloat platform to carry out money laundering operations, attempting to cover up the flow of funds and increase the difficulty of tracking.
In response to this incident, Yuxian particularly reminds cryptocurrency users: The longer mnemonic phrases/private keys are used online and the more people they are distributed for common use, the greater the possibility of leakage. Moreover, once a leakage occurs, it will become extremely difficult to identify the cause of the leakage. In the world of cryptocurrencies, mnemonic phrases and private keys are the core credentials of assets. Mastering them is equivalent to having absolute control over the assets in your wallet. When mnemonic phrases/private keys are used in a network environment for a long time, the risks faced will gradually accumulate. There are various potential security threats in cyberspace, such as malware, phishing websites, and hacker attacks. The longer they are used, the higher the probability of being exposed to these threats, and the risk of being stolen also increases accordingly.
At the same time, distributing mnemonic phrases/private keys to multiple people for shared use further increases the risk of leakage. For every additional person who comes into contact with the mnemonic phrase/private key, there is an increased possibility of information leakage. Moreover, once a leak occurs, due to the large number of people involved, identifying the source of the leak is like looking for a needle in a haystack, making it difficult to determine exactly who and at which stage the information was leaked.
The security issue of cryptocurrency assets has always been a major concern. Previously, there have been many cases where assets were stolen due to the leakage of mnemonic phrases or private keys. To prevent such incidents from happening, users need to enhance their security awareness and take effective preventive measures. Try to minimize the use of mnemonic phrases/private keys in the network environment and avoid inputting relevant information on untrusted devices or networks. Do not share mnemonic phrases or private keys with others at will. If it is indeed necessary for multiple people to collaborate in managing assets, consider using security solutions such as multi-signature wallets. Regularly change the mnemonic phrases/private keys to reduce the risks brought by long-term use.
As a professional blockchain security company, Slow Fog will also continue to pay close attention to the dynamics in the field of cryptocurrency security, provide users with more security suggestions and technical support, and jointly maintain the security and stability of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
