When discussing the economic and trade relations between China and the United States, He Yadong, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, introduced that the first meeting of the China-Us economic and trade consultation mechanism has been successfully held. This meeting conducted in-depth discussions on implementing the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries during the phone call on June 5th and the framework of the consensus reached at the Geneva talks, and achieved a series of results, making new progress in addressing each other’s economic and trade concerns.
He Yadong emphasized that China’s position against unilateral tariff hikes has remained consistent and unwavering. For a long time, unilateral tariff hikes have not only harmed the interests of enterprises and consumers in China and the United States, but also had an impact on the stability of the global industrial and supply chains. China urges the US to strictly abide by the rules of the World Trade Organization, abandon trade protectionism and stop abusing trade restrictive measures such as tariffs.
He Yadong pointed out that as the world’s two largest economies, the healthy and stable development of economic and trade relations between China and the United States is of vital importance to both countries and the global economy. China hopes that both sides will, in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, enhance communication and cooperation, properly handle differences and jointly promote the development of China-Us economic and trade relations in a stable and sustainable direction. Through equal dialogue and consultation, seeking mutually beneficial and win-win solutions will not only be conducive to the prosperous development of the economies of China and the United States, but also inject strong impetus into the global economic recovery and stability.
The progress made at the first meeting of the China-Us economic and trade consultation mechanism has laid a foundation for the two sides to further deepen economic and trade cooperation. In the future, the direction of China-Us economic and trade relations will attract global attention. Whether the two sides can continuously promote practical cooperation in the economic and trade fields on the basis of respecting each other’s core interests will have a profound impact on the global economic landscape.
