Golden Finance, citing Cointelegraph, reported that French police have made new progress in the investigation of the cryptocurrency kidnapping case and have arrested multiple suspects again.
Looking back at the case, on May 3rd, the French police carried out a raid and successfully rescued the father of a cryptocurrency entrepreneur. The victim was imprisoned for several days and was treated cruelly during which his fingers were cut off. It is learned that the kidnappers once demanded a ransom of 8 million US dollars from his family.
After this, the investigation of the case continued to advance. On June 4th, the Moroccan police took action and arrested a suspect who was identified as the mastermind behind a series of cryptocurrency kidnapping cases in France. Earlier, on May 26th, the Paris police had arrested 12 suspects related to the case.
Experts’ analysis points out that criminal organizations’ focus on cryptocurrency kidnapping might be due to the misconception that cryptocurrency transactions are difficult to track. At the same time, the insufficient security awareness of some cryptocurrency users also gives such crimes an opportunity to take advantage to a certain extent. At present, the case is still under further investigation, and the subsequent developments deserve attention.
