White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks said at the Bitcoin 2025 conference that the US could buy more Bitcoin. Here are the details:
The Basis for the Statement: The executive order on cryptocurrency signed by Trump on March 6 allows the government to purchase more Bitcoin if it is done in a “budget – neutral” way. That is, without raising taxes or increasing the national debt.
Specific Conditions: Sacks said that although he “can’t promise anything”, there is a way for the government to buy more Bitcoin. However, it requires convincing Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick or Treasury Secretary Scott Besson to approve the purchase and fund it “without a new tax or adding to the debt”. Maybe by finding funds from some other unused programs, the US could potentially acquire more Bitcoin.
In short, the US government may have the opportunity to acquire more Bitcoin under the premise of meeting the “budget – neutral” condition, but specific implementation requires the support of relevant departments and finding appropriate funding sources.
