On May 28, 2025, Balcony, a blockchain – based land record management company, announced that it had signed a five – year agreement with the Bergen County Clerk’s Office in New Jersey. Under the agreement, 370,000 property deeds in Bergen County, worth approximately $240 billion, will be tokenized on the Avalanche blockchain. This is the largest – scale blockchain – based deed tokenization project in US history.
Bergen County, with a population of nearly one million, generates approximately $500 million in property tax revenue annually. The project will cover all 70 municipalities in the county. It is expected to reduce deed processing time by over 90% and significantly decrease the risks of fraud, title disputes, and administrative errors. The deal was supported by Blizzard, a venture capital fund focused on Avalanche.
Balcony said that in addition to Bergen County, it is also working with several other counties in New Jersey, such as Camden, Orange, and Cliffside Park, to modernize their real – estate management records. The tokenization of 370,000 property deeds in Bergen County will bring the total number of tokenized deeds in New Jersey to approximately 460,000, with a total value of over $290 billion.
