European Commission Official: Metaverse Policy Should Consider Discrimination, Security, Data Control

Yvo Volman, data director of DG CONNECT, the digital department of the European Commission, said that when the EU considers how to regulate the metaverse, it needs to consider issues such as non-discrimination, user security and data privacy.

We have to make sure people feel as safe in the virtual world as they do in the real world, maybe even more so.

We need to make sure people have the right skills and tools to protect their asset in the virtual world — their data.

The EU’s executive arm is understood to be preparing to lay out its strategy on virtual worlds in a policy paper due to be released in May
