In a significant move to bolster the development of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, BlackRock and its infrastructure division, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), have announced the expansion of their AI Infrastructure Partnership (AIP). Joining the initiative are NVIDIA and Elon Musk’s xAI, alongside existing partners Microsoft and MGX. This collaboration focuses on creating state-of-the-art AI infrastructure, including next-generation data centers and energy solutions, to meet the surging demand for AI technologies.
Since its inception in September 2024, AIP has grown exponentially, with an initial $30 billion in capital, which has the potential to unlock up to $100 billion through debt financing. The partnership is set to prioritize the development of AI-ready infrastructure across the United States and other partner countries, aiming to meet the rapid pace of AI innovation through sustainable energy solutions.
A key element of the partnership is the alignment with energy giants GE Vernova and NextEra Energy, who will collaborate to provide reliable energy sources for AI data centers. The initiative will integrate renewable energy, battery storage, and nuclear power to ensure a stable and substantial power supply for the growing energy demands of AI technologies.
BlackRock CEO Larry Fink emphasized the transformative impact of AI on the global economy, noting that this alliance combines technological expertise with private capital to build the essential infrastructure needed for the future. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the pivotal role of AI data centers in fueling economic growth and innovation across various industries. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stressed that robust AI infrastructure is vital to the future success of industries and economies. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, Chairman of MGX, referred to AI as the cornerstone of the future, underscoring the partnership’s strategic importance.
With the inclusion of NVIDIA and xAI, AIP is poised to accelerate the development of cutting-edge AI infrastructure, which will play a critical role in driving the next generation of AI advancements.
